Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I–II patients over 19-years old who underwent a esophagectomy between January 2005 and December 2014 at Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a. pre-diagnosed pulmonary disease or previous lung resection b. acute or chronic renal disease c. simultaneous surgery other than esophageal resection and anastomosis d. re-operation of esophagus
