Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The enrollment criteria were the presentation of mild-to-moderate chronic periodontitis and persistent bleeding and inflammation even after scaling and root planing in both maxillary posterior regions.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria included the following: perceived stress about pain medication (i.e., sedative, muscle relaxant, anti-inflammatory, or narcotic analgesic medication), acute periodontal pain, pulpitis, abscesses, or other acute infections.
