Drug : Seventy-four patients undergoing elective laparoscopic gastrectomy were randomised to receive isotonic saline (group C) or magnesium sulphate (group M, loading dose with 50 mg kg -1 over 10 min

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients aged 19–69 yr with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical class I & II, scheduled for elective laparoscopic gastrectomy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with inability to give informed consent, a contraindication for steroidal NMB, neuromuscular disease, renal insufficiency, (serum creatinine; 2 times normal, urine output < 0.5 ml kg-1 h-1, glomerular filtration rate < 60 ml h-1, or proteinuria), pregnancy or breast-feeding, previous intra-abdominal surgery and obesity ( BMI = 35 kg m-2).
