Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients enrolled in this study included those who underwent diffusion weighted image and who experienced an acute lesion associated with neurological symptoms related to potentical cause of embolic stroke.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if they had other potential causes of DWI lesions or if diffusion weighted image (DWI) was performed following thrombolytic treatment or if DWI was examined after digital subtraction angiography (as angiography may produce silent lesions on DWI). Patients with concomitant large artery atherosclerosis of the relevant artery, atheroma (=4 mm) of the ascending aorta or aortic arch, lacunar infarction,or other determined etiology were also excluded.
