Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) Patients with stable COPD without prior exacerbation for 4 weeks (regardless of severity) (2) Age 40 years or older (at the time of consent). (3) Patient is an outpatient.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Patients with the following contraindications to cardiopulmonary exercise testing Acute myocardial infarction (onset 3-5 days) Unstable angina pectoris Treatment-resistant arrhythmia Syncope Active endocarditis Acute myocarditis and pericarditis Symptomatic aortic stenosis Acute pulmonary embolism or infarction Lower limb venous thrombosis Suspected dissected aorta Treatment-resistant bronchial asthma Pulmonary oedema SpO2 200 mmHg systolic, >120 mmHg diastolic) Tachyarrhythmia or bradyarrhythmia Severe atrioventricular block Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy Severe pulmonary hypertension Pregnancies in the third trimester or pregnancies with complications Electrolyte abnormalities Orthopaedic disease with restricted exercise (2) COPD patients with an exacerbation within the 4 weeks preceding the time of obtaining consent. (3) Patients with psychosis or psychiatric symptoms that make it difficult for them to participate in research. (4) Other patients deemed inappropriate by the principal investigator
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Correlation between anaerobic metabolic thresholds in COPD patients using sweat measurement devices and anaerobic metabolic thresholds using the exhaled gas analyser V-slope method | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Correlation between respiratory function and age with anaerobic metabolic threshold (ratio of anaerobic metabolic threshold by breath gas analysis and anaerobic metabolic threshold by sweat lactate sensor) Correlation between anaerobic threshold, VO2max and physical activity | — |
