Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.admitted to Hamamatsu University Hospital for hemodialysis initiation 2.able to provide written informed consent for participation in the study; and 3.independently ambulatory before admission.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.unable or unwilling to provide written informed consent; 2.judged to be unable to complete study assessments because of poor general condition; 3.unable to complete questionnaires or physical function assessments because of intellectual disability or language difficulties; or 4.judged by the principal investigator or attending physician to be unsuitable for participation in the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) score from baseline to 6 months.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes from baseline to 6 months in frailty assessed using the Japanese version of the Cardiovascular Health Study (J-CHS) criteria, physical activity (mean step count on non-dialysis days), physical function (Short Physical Performance Battery, knee extensor strength, handgrip strength, and walking speed), kidney disease-specific quality of life (KDQOL-SF), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), fear of movement (Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia), and exercise self-efficacy. Adverse events will be recorded throughout the intervention period.
