Conditions

Patients aged 18 years or older undergoing surgery.

Interventions

Measurement Methods of Thirst 1. Measure patient thirst both subjectively and objectively. 2. Subjective measurement: Based on previous research, patients rate their current thirst using the Numerical
oral moisture meter

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients who have a sufficient understanding of the research and provide consent. 2. Patients who are 18 years of age or older at the time of obtaining consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients who do not consent to participate in the study. 2. Patients requiring postoperative ICU management with continued intubation. 3. Patients unable to receive oral hydration postoperatively due to surgical effects. 4. Patients judged inappropriate for participation by the anesthesiologist in charge, considering surgical details or patient's clinical condition.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The correlation between oral moisture level measured using an oral moisture-checking device and thirst intensity assessed by the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) before the water intake test.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Change in NRS thirst scores at each time point (preoperative, postoperative, pre-oral intake). 2. Change in oral moisture values at each time point. 3. Correlation between oral moisture level and NRS score at the preoperative and postoperative time points. 4. Association of background factors (age, sex, surgery duration, anesthesia type) with thirst and moisture values.
