Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Non-epilepsy specialist A physician who meets all of the following criteria: Not certified as an epilepsy specialist by the Japan Epilepsy Society. Has treated at least one epilepsy patient aged 15 or older in the past month. Has treated at least one patient with drug-resistant epilepsy (i.e., seizures persist despite trials of two appropriate anti-seizure medications) in the past 12 months. Epilepsy specialist A physician who meets all of the following criteria: Certified as an epilepsy specialist by the Japan Epilepsy Society. Has treated at least one epilepsy patient aged 15 or older in the past month. Has treated at least one patient with drug-resistant epilepsy in the past 12 months.

Physician attributes (e.g., gender, affiliated institution, membership in academic societies, board certification status) Patient characteristics in clinical practice (e.g., number of patients seen per month, number of patients with persistent seizures) Perceptions regarding the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy (knowledge and attitude) (e.g., awareness of the definition of drug-resistant epilepsy, timing considered appropriate for referral to an epilepsy specialist) Actual treatment practices for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (practice) (e.g., proportion of patients referred to epilepsy specialists, reasons for referral, presence of psychological barriers to referral, proportion of patients referred back from specialists, time taken before referral to a specialist) | — |
