Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 70 years or older admitted for surgery under general anesthesia
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) severe psychiatric disorders or symptoms before hospitalization; 2) consumption of large amounts of alcohol (>1,500 mL beer, 3 cups of sake, or 300 mL shochu per day for > 5 years); 3) attending physician deeming it difficult for the patients to participate in the study
