Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, where (1) adult patients who received total hip arthroplasty under either general or spinal anesthesia;(2) patients were randomized to PENG block (ultrasound-guided, X-ray-guided, or CT-guided or landmark-based techniques) as an intervention compared with any kind of analgesia management other than PENG block (including no block, sham block, local or intraarticular anesthetic infiltration, or any other peripheral neural block). Published and unpublished articles, abstracts of conferences, and letters were included. No language restrictions were applied.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include: (1) studies that had another block as a co-intervention, except for lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) block or infiltration using local anesthetics; (2) studies of catheter-based continuous blocks; (3) studies where both intervention and comparison were PENG block; (4) studies with data that could not be used for statistical analysis, or studies with incomplete data, or data that could not be extracted after contacting the original authors; and (5) studies that were duplicate publications
