Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Acupuncture addresses both non-time-loss injuries and time-loss injuries. The epidemiological data records only those involving time loss.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The epidemiological survey defined injuries as time-loss injuries occurring during activity. Acupuncture treatment was excluded for sports injuries and disorders deemed unsuitable for acupuncture by assessment of trainers and doctors.

MeasureTime frame
The number of injured individuals recorded during the season, the number of occurrences by location and type of sports injury or impairment (injury name), were tallied. The severity (days), Athlete-hour (hereafter, AH), Incidence (cases/1,000 AH), and Injury burden (days/cases/1,000 AH) were calculated.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain was assessed on a scale of 0 to 100 mm, with 0 representing no pain and 100 representing the worst pain imaginable, and was recorded only during the spring season (February to June). Furthermore, acupuncture treatment was administered for both non-time-loss injuries (where no time was lost from competition) and time-loss injuries (where time was lost from competition). However, the epidemiological data only records cases involving time-loss injuries.
