Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: An electronic literature search was performed using MEDLINE (PubMed), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Google Scholar, and ICHUSHI-Web (a Japanese search engine of the Japan Medical Abstracts Society). Articles written in English and Japanese were considered eligible. Two reviewers independently screened all studies using the keyword terms "barbed suture", "knotless suture", "abdominal surgery", and "outcome".

Exclusion criteria: Society abstract, guidelines, protocol, case report, meta-analysis
