Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Informed consent to participate in the study (IC) will be obtained at Kitasato University Hospital and KMC for patients aged 18 years or older, in good general condition, considered eligible for endoscopy up to 5 years from the date of approval by the head of the research institute to 31 March 2028, who are judged to have atrophic changes and suspected atrophy at the time of examination. Patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and have endoscopically detected atrophic changes will be selected. In addition, as negative control cases, ICs will be obtained from patients who are assumed not to have atrophic changes on examination prior to endoscopy and who do not meet the exclusion criteria, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy will be performed and patients without endoscopic evidence of atrophic changes will be selected.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The following patients should be excluded. (i) Patients judged by the endoscopist to be at high risk of an accidental biopsy based on patient background and other factors. (ii) Cases in which the research use was refused. (iii) Patients with gastric cancer or a history of gastric cancer. (iv) Cases with a history of surgical resection of the upper gastrointestinal tract. (v) Cases with severe co-morbidities and prognosis of less than 5 years. (vi) Cases in which biopsy is deemed impossible due to antithrombotic medication. (vii) Pregnant or lactating women. (viii) Patients with abnormal blood coagulation disorders. (ix) Cases in which the principal investigator or co-principal investigator considers that participation in the study is inappropriate.
