Effect of vitamin D supplementation on glucose homeostasis among Type 2 Diabetic patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial - BETA CELL FUNCTION OR INSULIN SECRETION (HOMA B) The amount of glucose cleared from the blood in response to a dose of insulin. A score of less than 100 defined reduced B cell function. INSULIN RESISTANCE (HOMA IR) Defined as a condition when normal amount of insulin in body fails to produce the desired response . A score of greater than or equal to 2.0 defined IR. INSULIN SENSITIVITY Insulin sensitivity calculate by using the following formula is IS equal to 1 per IR (Normal is less than 3.0) VITAMIN D STATUS Vitamin D status was defined as SUFFICIENT with level of vitamin D greater than 30ng per ml and DEFICIENT with level of serum 25 (OH) vit D less than or equal to 30ng per ml.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Type 2 diabetic patients of aged 30 year to 70 year who were in treatment of oral hypoglycemic agent. 2. Agreed to maintain their usual dietary and physical activity habits at the time of intervention. 3. Voluntarily willing to participate in this clinical study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Below 30 years or above 70 years of age with Type I Diabetes Mellitus on insulin 2. Consuming vitamin D supplements within 3 months before beginning of the study 3. Women patients who were pregnant or breastfeeding

HYPOTHESIS - ACCEPTED 1. Vitamin D supplementation for 12 weeks would improve glycemic indices of HbA1c among Type 2 diabetic patients as compared to placebo group 2. Vitamin D supplementation for 12 weeks would improve glycemic indices of fasting blood glucose among Type 2 diabetic patients as compared to placebo group
