Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The consecutive patients enrolled in this study had previously established UC, were in sustained corticosteroid-free (>6 months) clinical remission (defined as partial Mayo score <1), and achieved MES=0 on endoscopic evaluation using the EC between October 2016 and May 2020 at Showa University Northern Yokohama Hospital.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with previous surgical colonic resection, surgery under general anesthesia, pregnancy, and self-discontinuation of medication during the follow-up period were excluded.
