Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients suspected to have bacterial pleuritis or empyema 2. Pleural effusion present 3. Patients who have provided informed consent, either themselves or their proxy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Hospital-acquired pneumonia patients
