Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients presenting to the Emergency Department at Tokyo Metropolitan Childrens Medical Center and receiving the diagnosis of acute appendicitis by a pediatric surgeon 2. Patients with abdominal ultrasonography and meeting criteria (a) and (b) plus (c) or (d) below. (a) Appendiceal outer diameter equal to or greater than 6 mm (b) No identifiable abscess or mass (c) No irregularity in the submucosal layer (d) Irregular submucosal layer with increased blood flow in the appendiceal wall
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Antibiotic administration within 72 hours prior to the initial diagnosis of acute appendicitis 2. Previous diagnosis of acute appendicitis 3. Refusal to participate in the study
