Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who underwent emergency major surgical procedures. Patients who underwent elective major surgery. Patients with known HIV status or who consented to HIV testing. Patients 18 years and above

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients whose HIV status was not known but refused to consent to HIV testing. Cases undergoing re-operation within a month of previous surgery. Patients less than 18 years old
