Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Among patients with diabetes who underwent renal biopsy at Toranomon hospital from March 1985 to March 2013 and were confirmed to have diabetic nephropathy, those with glomerular class III (nodular sclerosis) according to the Renal Pathology Society classification were eligible and enrolled.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients whose baseline eGFR was <15 mL/min/1.73m2
