Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) diagnosis of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) criteria - having PHN for at least 3 months but no longer than 2 years after ruling out other possible polyneuropathies and having an average daily spontaneous pain rated at least score 3 on an eleven point numeric rating pain scale (11- point NRS) from 0 to 10 (with 0 being no pain at all and 10 being the worst pain imaginable); (2) age ranged from 18 to 85; (3) female patients who were non-pregnant and non-lactating.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if blood level of uric acid was higher than 7.0
