Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: all blunt trauma patients who had a blood test on arrival and were admitted to the hospital.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Arrival in the emergency department more than 3 hours following injury; new injury severity score (NISS) <4; transfer from another hospital and cardiopulmonary arrest on arrival. Patients were retrospectively excluded if they were receiving anticoagulant medications (not including aspirin); had moderate or severe liver disease or a known bleeding diathesis.
