Inclusion criteria: HbA1c level, 6.2-10.4%

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: severe diabetic complications evidence of systemic disease other than diabetes as a risk factor for periodontitis administration of systemic antibiotics during the preceding 3 months pregnancy or lactation allergy to tetracycline modifications to the treatment received for diabetes during the preceding 2 months
