Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes aged 20 years and older.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Type 1 diabetes. Patients contraindicated to metformin. Patients judged not to be eligible by the principal investigator.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) at 16 weeks after the initiation of the treatment

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Change in body weight, fasting plasma glucose, glycated albumin, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, liver enzymes, and an incidence of adverse effects during treatment.
