Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged >18 years; 2. Metastatic or locally advanced cancer; 3. Dyspnea while sitting or lying at rest with a score of at least three points on a 0 to 10 point Numerical Rating Scale (NRS)(0=no breathlessness; 10=worst possible breathlessness); 4. no cognitive impairment and able to communicate in Chinese

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Fever > 38 degrees C in the preceding 24 hours; 2. A hemoglobin level <= 6g/dL; 3. Diseases or treatments affecting the trigeminal nerve; 4. Impaired integrity of skin around ears.
