Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) Middle-aged and elderly individuals aged 50-75 years, with no restriction on gender. (2) Participants with a Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) score =9 points. (3) Participants meeting the criteria for skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI): for men aged 50-64 years, ASMI <7.2 kg/m²; for women aged 50-64 years, ASMI <5.5 kg/m²; for men aged 65 years and older, ASMI <7.0 kg/m²; and for women aged 65 years and older, ASMI <5.4 kg/m². (4) Participants meeting the diagnostic criteria for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation. (5) Patients who have signed the informed consent form, voluntarily participate in this study, and are able to cooperate with the research. (6) Patients with normal cognitive function who can communicate and interact normally with researchers. (7) Participants who are able to complete questionnaires independently or with assistance.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Other chronic wasting diseases leading to sarcopenia, such as severe malnutrition; severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe chronic kidney disease (eGFR < 30), severe diabetes, cirrhosis, severe fatty liver disease, or other diseases or physiological conditions that may affect muscle mass. (2) Individuals who may develop disuse muscle atrophy or any severe injuries or diseases significantly affecting gait, such as those who have experienced lower limb or pelvic fractures in the past 12 months, resulting in inability to bear weight and walk; or those with hemiplegia, myasthenia gravis, severe Parkinson's disease, peripheral neuropathy, advanced peripheral vascular disease with intermittent claudication, spinal stenosis, or severe osteoarthritis of the knee or hip with pain management ineffective, impacting lower limb mobility. (3) Individuals with conditions unsuitable for massage or exercise, such as local skin infections or severe skin edema. (4) History of joint replacement surgery or amputation. (5) History of mental disorders, language and emotional communication disorders, or other neurological diseases. (6) Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
