Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for healthy subjects: 1) Age between 20 and 40 years; 2) No history of injuries or surgeries related to lower limb movement; 3) No history of chronic pain or long-term medication use; 4) Able to complete all study-related tests and follow-ups; 5) Agree and sign the informed consent form. Inclusion criteria for subjects with medial/lateral vastii muscle imbalance: 1) Diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome - diagnostic criteria include: pain behind or around the patella; reproduction of pain behind or around the patella during activities such as squatting, stair climbing, prolonged sitting, or other functional activities that place the patellofemoral joint in a flexed position; physical examination findings such as patellar tilt test and patellar tracking assessment; exclusion of other diseases that may cause anterior knee pain, including tibiofemoral joint disorders. Additionally, the bilateral vastus medialis CSA ratio is less than 0.9 (J Magn Reson Imaging, Magda Marcon et al, 2014; J Orthop Res, Anthony S Kulas et al, 2018); 2) Good knee joint stability, no obvious laxity, which can be determined through clinical assessments (e.g., Lachman test, anterior drawer test, and pivot shift test); 3) Age between 20 and 40 years; 4) Able to complete all study-related tests and follow-ups, agree and sign the informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for healthy subjects: 1) Any acute or chronic disease that may affect muscle function; 2) (Patellofemoral dysplasia, such as Wiberg III type, trochlear dysplasia of II type or above, posterior patellar defect, high-riding patella, etc.); 3) Currently undergoing any medication that may affect muscle size or function; 4) History of lower extremity-related injuries within the past 6 months; 5) Neurological diseases or any condition affecting joint movement; 6)6 (Possibility of pregnancy or plans for pregnancy within 6 months from the start to the end of the experiment). Exclusion criteria for subjects with medial/lateral vastus muscle imbalance: 1) Other knee diseases, such as meniscal tears or knee osteoarthritis; 2) (Patellar dysplasia, such as Wiberg III type, trochlear dysplasia of II type or above, posterior patellar defect, high-riding patella, etc.); 3) Currently receiving other interventions that may affect muscle size or function; 4) History of other lower extremity-related injuries within the past 6 months; 5) Neurological diseases or other major health issues that may interfere with the study; 6)6 (Possibility of pregnancy or plans for pregnancy within 6 months from the start to the end of the experiment).
