Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Fifty-six patients with single-segment herniation at the L4/5 lumbar disc confirmed by MRI (resulting in nerve root compression), who met the diagnostic criteria for lumbar disc herniation (LDH); they presented with clinical symptoms of low back pain, as well as unilateral lower limb pain and numbness; aged 18 to <65 years, with a symptom duration of at least 3 months.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Complicated with severe underlying diseases such as heart failure, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD); history of mental illness; lumbar instability; abnormal coagulation function; presence of infection, tuberculosis, or space-occupying lesions; previous invasive treatments including surgery or small needle knife therapy; patients with needle phobia; lumbar disc extrusion or sequestration; tumor-related sciatica or piriformis syndrome; pregnant women; patients who refuse small needle knife therapy.
