Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for the observation group: Patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the neurology, traditional Chinese medicine, and health examination departments of our hospital from January 2025 to December 2026: (1) All included patients meet the McDonald 2017 diagnostic criteria and the 2018 Chinese Expert Consensus on Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis. (2) Included patients are aged =18 years. Inclusion criteria for the control group: (1) Healthy adults who underwent blood tests, liver function, and kidney function tests in the neurology, traditional Chinese medicine, and health examination departments of our hospital from January 2025 to December 2026, with no abnormalities found.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for the observation group: (1) Patients younger than 18 years old. (2) Later diagnosed with other demyelinating diseases (e.g., acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein immunoglobulin G-related diseases, demyelinating pseudotumor, and myelitis); cerebrovascular diseases (e.g., multiple lacunar infarcts, vascular malformations, and Moyamoya disease); infectious diseases, connective tissue diseases, granulomatous diseases, tumors, or genetic and metabolic diseases. (3) Patients with severe comorbidities from other systems. (4) Patients in pregnancy or lactation. (5) Cases with incomplete data or lost to follow-up. Exclusion criteria for the control group: (1) Age younger than 18 years; (2) Abnormalities in blood tests, liver function, or kidney function.
