Interventions

True STIM group:Scalp acupuncture at the Stomach and Gallbladder Meridians. The electroacupuncture device delivered an actual output current of 1-2 mA, administered three times per week for 20 minutes
Sham STIM group:Patch electrodes were placed at the same acupoints with zero current output, while maintaining identical operation frequency and session duration as the True STIM group.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Demographic characteristics: Aged 18–60 years, regardless of gender. 2.Obesity diagnosis: BMI =28 kg/m² (mean of three measurements), or BMI =25 kg/m² combined with at least one metabolic abnormality:Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) =5.6 mmol/L;Triglycerides (TG) =1.7 mmol/L;High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) <1.0 mmol/L (male) or <1.3 mmol/L (female).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Pregnancy or lactation. 2.Severe cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases (e.g., heart failure, history of stroke) or implanted electronic devices (e.g., cardiac pacemakers). 3.History of bariatric surgery or use of weight-loss medications (such as GLP-1 receptor agonists or orlistat) within the past 3 months. 4.Thyroid dysfunction (TSH beyond ±20% of the normal range). 5.Hepatic or renal insufficiency (ALT/AST >3× upper limit of normal; eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73m²). 6.Psychiatric disorders or inability to cooperate with evaluations (e.g., major depression, cognitive impairment).
