Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Patients with acute gouty arthritis who meet the 2015 American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism (ACR/EULAR) classification criteria for gout; (2) Presence of swelling and pain in the first metatarsophalangeal joint with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score of 4 or higher; (3) Onset within 72 hours; (4) No use of urate-lowering medications in the past 2 weeks; (5) No use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) within 72 hours of onset; (6) Aged 18 to 70 years; (7) Voluntary signing of informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Patients with severe cardiovascular diseases; (2) Patients with severe mental disorders; (3) Patients with skin damage at the acupuncture site; (4) Pregnant women; (5) Patients with infection or ulceration at the acupuncture site; (6) Secondary gouty arthritis caused by other factors (such as renal failure radiotherapy or chemotherapy medications); (7) Patients who have participated in other clinical trials within the past month; (8) Patients with severe liver and kidney dysfunction: total bilirubin > 1.5× ULN; alanine aminotransferase and/or aspartate aminotransferase > 2× ULN; serum creatinine > 2× CR; (9) Patients with needle phobia (vasovagal response to acupuncture).
