40 Years to 70 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 40-70 years; 2. Carotid ultrasound (within 6 months): intima-media has thickening and no plaque in unilateral or bilateral carotids. IMT >= 1.0 mm, and < 1.5 mm. (Refer to the "Guideline for Ultrasound Examination of Blood Vessels", Chinese Society of Physicians); 3. Volunteers who join the study and cooperate with acupuncture treatment; 4. Signed informed consent form; 5. No drugs taken to improve atherosclerosis and regulate vascular activity (i.e., medications for diseases such as hypertension, heart failure, hyperlipidaemia, coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, etc.) within the past 2 weeks; 7. No participation in other clinical studies.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Risk of cardio-cerebrovascular disease >= 20% within 10 years; 2. Cerebrovascular accident, transient cerebral ischaemic attack, severe trauma or major surgery; 3. Serious diseases such as those of the heart, liver, kidney or haematopoietic system; 4. Mental disorders, for example, cognitive impairment; 5. Skin diseases and bleeding disorders; 6. Pregnancy or lactation.
