Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients attending accident and emergency (A&E) departments in Bristol and Bath after an episode of deliberate self harm (DSH), registered with general practitioners in Avon. 1932 - patients were studied in total.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cases of alcohol taken alone and illicit drug overdose, except where the casualty officer felt that the purpose of the act was self-harm or suicide.
