Series of seven education sessions provided by registered occupational therapist to group of care staff covering the need for occupation, how to get to know the resident and how to select/offer person

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Care homes residents need to be: 1. Aged 60 and over 2. Have lived at the care home for at least two months on a permanent basis 3. Fulfill the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for dementia 4. Score less than 24 on the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) 5. Able to consent/assent to participate in the trial

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Residents with primarily a mental health diagnosis or learning disability.
