Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Care homes residents need to be: 1. Aged 60 and over 2. Have lived at the care home for at least two months on a permanent basis 3. Fulfill the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) criteria for dementia 4. Score less than 24 on the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) 5. Able to consent/assent to participate in the trial
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Residents with primarily a mental health diagnosis or learning disability.
