Interventions

Two groups receive verum (real) acupuncture either with manual manipulation, or with electro-acupuncture, and the third sham (control) acupuncture.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients are included if they: 1. Agreed to participate in the study by written, informed consent 2. Fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology criteria for knee OA

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Non-compliance 2. High serum uric acid

MeasureTime frame
Immunological study for adhesion molecules such as intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) and cytokines such as interleukin-1beta (IL1B) and Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) alpha, before and after treatment.
