Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with COPD (diagnosed by a pulmonologist, post-bronchodilatator FEV1/FVC below the lower limit of normal) were eligible for the study if they experienced refractory dyspnea (troubled by breathlessness despite optimization of COPD treatment) and were able to visit the outpatient clinic.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Terminal phase 2. Cognitive impairment 3. Unable to speak Dutch

1. Respiratory problems measured using a Dutch translation of the Chronic Respiratory Questionnaire (CRQ), subset mastery domain at baseline and final visit 2.
