Interventions

Participants will be randomly allocate to the following two arms: Intervention group: A 6-week course of singing lessons (1 hour/ lesson) twice weekly Control group: Standard care only

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Both males and females, no age limits 2. COPD patients able to comply with a course of lessons 3. Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnoea score >3/5

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Unable to comply with course

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Single breath counting and breath hold time. All primary and secondary outcomes will be assessed at 7 weeks.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Quality of life (QOL): St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), Transition Dyspnoea Index, SF-36® Health Survey 2. Shuttle walking test (SWT) All primary and secondary outcomes will be assessed at 7 weeks.
