Interventions

The study will recruit symptomatic and asymptomatic COVD-19 patients hospitalized at the University-Hospital in Ferrara (Italy). Control non-infected subjects were enrolled as controls.

Inclusion criteria: COVID-19 patient hospitalized at the University-Hospital of Ferrara (Italy)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Affected by specific ocular pathologies of infectious or other origin

Presence and titer of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgA in ocular fluid collected by Schirmer test at a single time point

1. Presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA genome in ocular fluid collected by Schirmer test at a single time point 2. Presence and concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with the COVID-19 "cytokine storm" in ocular fluid collected by Schirmer test at a single time point 3. Antibody response against the virus at the blood level (IgG and IgM) measured by a blood test at a single time point 4. Ocular and respiratory symptoms recorded by the investigator at a single time point
