Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Cases: 1. Children (aged 0 to 60 months) 2. Acute diarrheal episode (diarrhoea will be defined as three or more loose stools in the last 24 hours with or without other symptoms such as fever, vomiting or dehydration and the onset must be within the last 7 days) Controls: 1. Healthy children coming to the same hospital/health centre for routine immunization and not presenting with gastroenteritis symptoms for the past 14 days
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Cases: 1. Children who do not have diarrhoea 2. Children older than 5 years 3. Parents or guardians do not give formal consent to participate in the study Controls: 1. Sick children 2. Children older than 5 years 3. Parents or guardians do not give formal consent to participate in the study
