Exclusion criteria: 1. Women undergoing emergency Caesarean section 2. Women who have refused to give consent to the study 3. Any co-morbidity

Episodes of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) assessed using using a 3-point ordinal scale (0 = none, 1 = nausea, 2 = vomiting) recorded hourly for the first 4 h and then every 4 h for the next 24 h. Episodes of pruritus assessed using a four-point categorical scale (0 = no pruritus, 1 = mild pruritus, 2 = moderate pruritus, 3 = severe pruritus) hourly for the first 4 hours and then 4 hourly for the next 48 hours after surgery 2. Pain intensity assessed using a 100-mm visual analog scale VAS (Mc Cormack et al, 1988), where 0 mm = no pain, and 100 mm = intolerable pain, immediately after surgery 3.
