Interventions

Intervention 1: Intervention group: They will use Opalescence 15% bleaching gel (Opalescence 15% carbamide peroxide gel
Ultradent Products Inc., South Jordan, Utah, USA) for 10 days. After 10 days, the retainer will be collected from the patient and sent for laboratory tests. Then, a one-week washout period will be con

Inclusion criteria: Patients who have completed active orthodontic treatment and have entered the retention phase Willingness to undergo home-bleaching Good oral, gingival, and periodontal health No smoking or consumption of highly staining foods No extensive restorations on the anterior teeth Written informed consent to participate in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Breaking or losing the tray History of sensitivity or allergy to bleaching agents Presence of systemic conditions affecting treatment Lack of cooperation in using the retainer or bleaching gel Intolerable pain and discomfort or severe gingival burns

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Flexural strength, surface hardness, and surface roughness of the retainer. Timepoint: The main outcomes of the study, including flexural strength, surface hardness, and surface roughness of the clear retainers, will be measured at the end of each 10-day retainer-use period. In the intervention–control sequence, the first measurement will be performed after 10 nights of using the retainer with bleaching gel, and the second measurement will be performed after the washout period and 10 nights of using the retainer without bleaching gel. In the control–intervention sequence, the first measurement will be performed after 10 nights of using the retainer without bleaching gel, and the second measurement will be performed after the washout period and 10 nights of using the retainer with bleaching gel. Method of measurement: Flexural strength of the clear retainers will be measured using a universal mechanical testing machine through the three-point bending test method. Surface hardness of the clear retainers will be measured using a Vickers hardness tester. Surface roughness of the clear retainers will be evaluated using a surface profilometer. Molecular changes in the retainers will be assessed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with the attenuated total reflectance method.
