Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Novice nurses with less than two years of work experience Novice nurses in consecutive shifts with the same shift (morning, evening, and night shifts) Night shift nurses with at least 5 night shifts per month Willing to participate in the study Not pregnant or breastfeeding No sensitivity to lemon essential oil No history of allergies to essential oils Male of both sexes No impairment of the sense of smell No use of perfume and cologne during the study Obtaining a minimum score of 8 on the Beck Anxiety Questionnaire No use of sleeping pills and painkillers during the study No nasal obstruction and congestion No use of neuroleptics No history of allergic rhinitis
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Unwillingness to continue participating in the study Use of other herbal essential oils during the study Use of sedatives and sleeping pills, sensitivity or allergy to lemon essential oil that is identified during the study

| Percentage of people with an anxiety score above 8 on the questionnaire. Timepoint: Initially, the baseline anxiety of novice nurses will be measured before the intervention using the BAI scale, and those with an anxiety score of 8 or higher will be included in the study. The intervention will be performed before the nurse's shift and in every 3 consecutive shifts (novice nurses in consecutive shifts with the same shift (morning, afternoon, and night), once, and then 90 minutes after the intervention in a room separate from the ward. Method of measurement: In this study, the Beck Anxiety Inventory will be used to measure the anxiety of participating novice nurses. | — |
