|---|---|
| Thirst severity score. Timepoint: Before intervention and 30 minutes after the intervention. Method of measurement: Thirst severity will be assessed using the thirst severity Visual Analoge Scale (VAS). The overall score of this scale ranges from zero indicating no thirst to 10 indicating the worst thirst. The overall thirst scores have been classified as mild (0-3), moderate (4-6), and severe (7-10) based on a study by Yang et al. (2010).;Thirst distress score. Timepoint: Before intervention and 30 minutes after the intervention. Method of measurement: Thirst distress will be assessed using the Thirst Distress Scale (TDS). This tool has six items on a 5-point Likert scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). The overall score of this scale ranges from 6 to 30, with higher scores indicating more severe thirst distress.;Dry mouth score. Timepoint: Before intervention and 30 minutes after the intervention. Method of measurement: The score of dry mouth will be assessed using a Dry Mouth Assessment Checklist. This Checklist is a modified form based on the 11-item Dry Mouth Inventory developed by Agha-Hosseini et al. (2011). This checklist consists of two sections, including researcher observations and the researcher's questions from the patient. This checklist also contains 10 questions, with eight questions having yes/no options where yes scores 1 and no scores 0. In question 9 regarding tongue color, pink scores 0 and pale scores 1. In question 10 regarding tongue texture, normal texture scores 0 and abnormal texture scores 1. A higher score indicates greater dryness of the mouth. | — |
