Interventions

Intervention 1: 1) Intervention group: Individuals with overweight and obesity undergo 12 weeks of combined exercise training and receive either daily vitamin C (1000 mg) and vitamin E (400 IU)
. Intervention 2: 2) Intervention group: Individuals with overweight and obesity undergo 12 weeks of combined exercise training and receive a placebo
. Intervention 3: 3) Intervention group: Healthy people undergo 12 weeks of combined exercise training and receive either daily vitamin C (1000 mg) and vitamin E (400 IU)
. Intervention 4: 4) Intervention group: Healthy people undergo 12 weeks of combined exercise training and receive a placebo.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Ages: 18 - 30 years Body mass index: 18.9 - 35 kg/m2 Not engaged in regular exercise activities over the last six months No smoking or alcohol consumption No supplement use over the last six months

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Suffering from chronic cardiovascular, liver and kidney diseases Having any pain or mobility limitations that prevent interventions Current treatment with medication or supplements that significantly affect the main study variables Having a history of bariatric surgery Following a special diet, including strict vegetarian/vegan, within the past 6 months

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Maximal oxygen consumption. Timepoint: Before and after 12 weeks of intervention as well as following a 3-month follow-up. Method of measurement: Using the Gas analyzer instrument.;Glucose homeostasis. Timepoint: Before and after 12 weeks of intervention as well as following a 3-month follow-up. Method of measurement: By measuring fasting glucose and insulin, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, and optional OGTT.;Body composition. Timepoint: Before and after 12 weeks of intervention as well as following a 3-month follow-up. Method of measurement: By Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA).;Muscle strength. Timepoint: Before and after 12 weeks of intervention as well as following a 3-month follow-up. Method of measurement: Using an isometric back strength dynamometer.

Muscular mitochondrial markers. Timepoint: 48 hours after the last training session. Method of measurement: Using ELISA method.;Lipid profile.
