Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age 50 to 70 years Both sexes (male and female) Candidate for primary unilateral total knee replacement Ability to return for follow-up visits

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Any previous history of knee surgery Severe endocrine disorders A history of cardiovascular, hepatic, hematological, respiratory, or peripheral vascular disease Active cancer A history of use of corticosteroids or anabolic steroids in the past 2 weeks

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Quadriceps and Hamstring muscles volume. Timepoint: 0, 1, 3 months. Method of measurement: Ultrasonography.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The Western Ontario and McMaster University Arthritis Index (WOMAC) is widely used in the assessment of hip and knee osteoarthritis. It includes 24 items that are divided into 3 subscales: pain (5 items) - stiffness (2 items) - physical function (17 items). Timepoint: 0,1,3 months. Method of measurement: questionnaire.
