Interventions

Intervention 1: Intervention group: Single dose of intramuscular vitamin D 300000 IU (1 ml). Intervention 2: Control group: 1 milliliter intramuscular injectable normal saline.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with intertrochanteric fracture Patients with normal 25(OH) Vitamin D level (30-80 ng/ml) Willing to participate in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with debilitating neurologic underlying disease Patients with metabolic or metastatic bone disease Patients with simultaneous fracture of other regions Vitamin d deficiency state (<30 ng/ml) Not willing to participate in the study injecting Vitamin D ampule within last month

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Mortality rate. Timepoint: 6 months after the surgery. Method of measurement: Questioning by telephone from the patients or their relatives.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Harris hip score. Timepoint: 6 months after the surgery. Method of measurement: Harris hip score questionnaire.
