Intervention 1: Intervention group: administration of 4 mg of selenium intro-operatively in 2oo ml normal saline and 1 mg normal saline daily post-operatively. Intervention 2: Control group: after ane
Treatment - Drugs
Intervention group: administration of 4 mg of selenium intro-operatively in 2oo ml normal saline and 1 mg normal saline daily post-operatively
Control group: after anesthesia induction, NaCl 0.9% infusion (200 ml) will be infused in 30 minutes and it repeated every day in ICU

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria: All patients above 18 old years who are candidate for elective cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass Exclusion Criteria: Urgent Surgery; Redo Surgeries; any preoperative organic damage; insulin depended diabetes mellitus; using any nephrotoxic or antioxidant agents preoperatively; Left Ventricular EF below 40 percent

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Post-operative cardiac, renal, hepatic, respiratory, hematologic and neurologic damage. Timepoint: daily during ICU stay. Method of measurement: daily measuring of creatinine, bilirubin, platelet count, arterial blood gas and physical exam and calculating SOFA score.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Postoperative complications. Timepoint: daily during ICU stay period. Method of measurement: clinical exam and paraclinical tests.
