Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria Admitted to general and central ICUs of Nemazee Hospital; have an indwelling urinary catheter; age greater than 18 years; completion of the informed consent; absence of signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection on admision in ICU; do not have an immunocompromised status; do not have predisposing factors of UTI Exclusion Criteria Maintenance of indwellling catheter for less than 48 hours; occurence of UTI signs and symptoms before 48 hours post catheter insertion.
