Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients admitted to the intensive care unit American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) status between 1 and 2 Patient age above 65 years Absence of delirium upon admission according to the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU) Written informed consent from the patient to participate in the study
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Active psychiatric illness ( such as schizophrenia, severe depression) or use of strong psychotropic medications prior to admission Predicted ICU stay of less than 48 hours History of allergy or contraindication to anesthetics and sedative medications
