Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: all patients undergoing laparotomy Exclusion criteria: history of substance abuse, loss of consciousness, dementia, resection and anastamosis of GI during surgery, presence of chemical or fecal peritonitis as the cause of laparotomy
