Interventions

Intervention 1: First group: Metformin 500 mg tablet orally bid for 3 month. Intervention 2: Second group: Pioglitazone 30 mg tablet orally daily for 3 month.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: Patients with known type 2 diabetes mellitus more than 30 years Serum creatinine < 1.5 mg/dl in men and <1.4 mg/dl in women Exclusion criteria: Serious cardiovascular diseases Advanced renal or hepatic diseases Severe diabetes mellitus complications Poor compliance
